Hi There!
I am VERY serious about protecting your skin and your health while you are in the sun! I wanted to drive home how important it is for you to care for yourself when you are in the sun’s rays. Here are some interesting facts about the sun:
SCIENCE FACTS:
- The sun is a star
- It is the closest star to earth
- It is a huge ball of gases, mostly hydrogen
- It is a member of the Milky Way Galaxy
- It is the largest object and contains approximately 98% of the total solar system mass.
- One hundred and nine Earths would be required to fit across the Sun’s disk
- The Sun appears to have been active for 4.6 billion years
- It has enough fuel to go on for another five billion years or so.
- The sun is believed to be over 4 billion years old
PRACTICAL SUN SAFETY:
- Never look directly at the Sun, even with sunglasses.
- The sun is so bright it could easily blind you in just a few seconds.
- The Sun is about a million times brighter than a household light bulb.
- The Sun also emits harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can damage your skin and eyes.
Stay healthy,
Deborah
- In fact, any tan is a sign of damage to your skin!
- A sunburn may hurt for a while, but damaging your skin over many years can cause many problems, including skin cancer.
- That is why you should always wear sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher when you will be out in the Sun for more than a few minutes.
- Did you know you can still be affected by the sun on cloudy days?
- Though not as bright as sunny days, much of the harmful UV light still comes through the clouds.
- The SPF of a tan is only about a 2 – it is not safe enough to protect you from harmful rays
Pretty interesting huh? But pretty scary too if we’re not careful. Don’t be foolish – protect your skin and your eyes. Use sunglasses that offer 100% protection from UV rays. Use skin care products that are:
